I forwarded the above questions to the new museum director (Randy) of the Nevada Southern via another forum.
Regarding 1855, he will have to check records to know exactly where it was used.
Regarding 844's new paint job (currently underway), he writes:

We are spot priming tomorrow AM, then grey on Wednesday. A few days later we will spray yellow, then the red stripe, then the grey on the frame and tank. Lettering is on hand, from UP's offical supplier, matching closely (exactly?) what was on her on arrival.
