The freight operation is DOA imho. Trucks make more economic sense for this area. The real issue is the right of way - the road interests want it it gone, pure and simple. They have already succeeded in this south of Corte Madera. SMART envisions such a minimal capital investment that the project is doomed to mediocre patronage(especially if there is no Rohnert Park casino). The only reason I am supporting the SMART ballot initiative is to protect the right of way in the hope the GG Bridge District can be brought around. It is just possible that an extended gasoline crisis could loosen their commitment to a second deck for autos only. And don't tell me that the Bridge has not been quietly planning for a second deck for the last 50 years. It is only SF opposition that has stopped it.
