Was this line ever considered as another alternative for the Gold Line to Pasadena? The 710 route was nuts because it will NEVER be built (spend tunnel money on transit for jeebus sake) and the ATSF line was less than perfect because, though fast, it killed Amtrak and the possibility of Metrolink and local freight service in the northern SGV.
My preference was always to use the LA&SL Pasadena branch, but it would have required some eminent domain action to recreate the ROW.
Or, alternately, forget LRT altogether. We should have double tracked the ATSF, electrified it, and run EMU trains, Amtrak, and late night freights.
