IIRC, after reading a study and EIR Capitol Corridor entered after Caltrain determined a few years back that they would not offer service beyond Gilroy. The CCJPA directors have a paragraph (Section) in their charter that allows service to non-member counties if it meets some criteria.
They voted to explore this expansion, and as far as I can see are in a position to start working to establish service to Salinas soon. Stops would be Salinas, Castroville, Wattsonville, Gilroy and San Jose. Initially the 3:35 and 5:30 departures from Sacramento would end their run in Salinas returning the next morning at 5:30 and 6:45. (proposed timing are by recollection only).
