At one trolley museum an operator fell asleep while standing at the controls and ran past the end of the trolley wire. After a thorough physical examination his doctor could find no problems and stated that this was an example of "micro sleep." The doctor wrote a letter stating that the operator was competent to continue operating in the future. So at least some medical professionals are aware of these problems.
