Coleman wrote in regards to steam excursions "Railroads I believe have a moral obligation to respect the needs of the public because their activities affect the activites of the public whether if it be moving passengers, the mail the food we eat etc."
By that thought process, we should demand that the airlines keep old equipment around and have 'excursions'. Let's sell a trip on an old DC-6 and better still we will have a photo runby! Land on one of the main runways at O'Hare, let everyone off onto the ground so they can take pictures, and do a couple of touch and go landings. Stop all the other air traffic for the hour or so this will take.
The UP and other railroads are in the business of moving freight, nothing more. We all should be grateful that UP even has a steam program, and stop worrying about which engines they decide to use or not use.
