Hi Margaret--
Those two "light Pacific's " were built by LIMA in 1917 for the Arizona Eastern RR as
locomotives # 701 and 702. In February-1922 they were transferred to the Southern Pacific from the Arizona Eastern. AE # 701 became SP 2476, and AE # 702 became SP 2477.
The TOTAL WEIGHT of EACH of those two locomotives was 276,000 pounds compared to 300,000 pounds for SP 2472. The Tractive Effort for each of the P-7 Pacifics was 40,750 pounds compared to a tractive effort of 43,660 pounds for SP 2472. The two engines were restricted to the Los Gatos branch but at the end of THAT service, SP 2477 kept running a few years, in commute service.
In 1924, the Arizona Eastyern RR was absorbed into the Southern Pacific.
