It gets more obvious every day that we are talking about a region where passenger trains that don't run are called "SMART" -
but that the people obviously aren't !!
If you don't run the commuter trains, soon you will be walking to work - If there is any work left - when the highway/automobile collapses.
It will - it already is dying. Or perhaps, you would be figuring to go to war to get all the gas you need!
If we already had the trains, there wouldn't be so much demand for oil, and you could then get to work without it anyhow. Note that in the seventies, when BART started, it was found that one rail car containing 80 commuters, used about the same amount of energy per mile as one automobile hauling an average of 1.2 persons.
