As someone who worked with Stathi I think it is a misrepresentation to say he comes with baggage. His standards are high and he does not believe in poor work or running unsafe equipment. In the case of both mt rainier and NWRM the directors demanded he comoromise safety and quality. In both cases he attempted to work and educate the directors as to a better way. Unfortunately their egos would not allow them to listen. If Mt Rainier is any gauge, I don't see good things for NWRM on its current course. Nobody worked harder for both of those institutions than Stathi. Problem was it was not appreciated. Mt Rainer ended up failing and basically giving themselves to american heritage in order to not just be auctioned off. Stathi predicted that the course was unsustainable, and it turned out he was right. I've learned to trust his analysis of the facts of the situation. Again, if knowing things and doing everything to help a place but being denied by the frailty of the leadership is baggage, then maybe you are right.
