Viable mass transit between the Glendale-Pasadena area and the Inland Empire was sorely needed. For what ever reason, the Metro LR ended up serving this segment. I really doubt that commuters heading to downtown LA from the Inland Empire would switch from Metrolink to the Metro Gold Line as the time in transit is greater, albeit cheaper and more flexible.

But, it would be interesting to know what the actual numbers are.

How many people do commute between the Inland Empire and the Glendale-Pasadena area?
How many people do commute between the Inland Empire and the San Fernando valley?
