The highway lobby was the prime player in the mostly postwar extermination of electric rail transit in the US. The American Automobile Ass'n was an important tool, vehemently agitating against streetcar tracks in the way of their blitzkrieg.
General Motors had edited a list of street railway companies in American cities it wanted gone. The Cleveland councilman who led the effort to abandon streetcars was rewarded with a GM dealership.
The younger people in my family circle are touting the glories, in particular, the safety of automated self-driving cars. My feeling is on the contrary arrogant self-entitled yuppie scum will try to get pedestrian laws changed such that there are no stops and pedestrians are invisible. You already see that with the ****tard roundabout mentality.
On my way walking to the grocery store today I saw 2 scumbags actually accelerating thru stop signs in my neighborhood. The cops do nothing to them. My father, a very angry man when he returned from the war, had a favorite expression when he was outraged. ""So and so needs a good horsewhipping." A-holes who blow thru stop signs really deserve worse.
When Musk's Jetsons nirvana finally arrives everybody will have to travel in an automated car, best fitted out with armor like a tank. Otherwise on foot you will be dead meat.
