Thanks for the answer regarding operating on SMART tracks.
I guess the lack of a wye in Santa Rosa and San Rafael might require a very long back up move for the 2472 that would make it impractical to run the engine on the line.
I'm not from the area but I wonder if there are any heavily populated areas along the right of way between Schellville Ignacio and Lombard filled with organized NIMBY Brian Peoples types who've moved in a long time ago near what they thought was an abandoned or little used railroad and might try to block passenger excursions by demanding EIRS or other stalling legal tactics to stall or kill the passenger trains.
I guess only the GGRM people could tell us what if any assurances they got from NWP regarding operating rights
