As much as I would like to take a train to Eureka, let's be totally frank here. Unless there is a rebirth in wholesale redwood tree cutting and milling, there is no reason to spend 1-3 billion restoring this line. Up to Willits, yes if funding and a firm commitment by industry in that area to ship by rail can be found.

If you really want it opened up, start a group that publicly and has Sacramento's backing to widen 101 to interstate width. Put this out there, and every environmentalist will scream to have the railroad rebuilt.
