Re: Willits, Redwoods, Eureka......... and other fantasy's

Facts:
1) If the line is ever restored as far as Willits, it will have nothing whatsoever to do with reconnecting to the Skunk.
2) If the line could be restored to Willits it would require less than to billion or two to Eureka, but still a lot.
3) If the line were to be restored beyond Healdsburg, it would require a significant and profitable traffic base.
4) If this service was restored beyond Healdsburg the traffic base would have nothing to do with strip mining the 5% of old growth redwood, which is now mostly all in State and Federal parks, we ran out of Redwood for large scale commercial volumes once hauled out in hundred car NWP trains about 30 years ago, and it'll take a couple of hundred more years before the next growth is mature.
5) If this service could be restored beyond Healdsburg, it would probably require one of the quarry operations to provide enough traffic, to support even that investment, with all of the resultant irrational and most extreme ranting Nimby factions spouting about a ton of horse-crap (squared) about how this will likely destroy all of mankind, and at the very least, all of our wonderful furry and feathered friends.
6) If the line is ever restored to Eureka, hell would have frozen over, and the @#$%& will have taken up ice skating, since Eureka is a crappy port, with no traffic base, no domestic traffic base, and no prospects of any of that changing any time soon. I still think Eureka to Ferndale, or up the Bay to Arcata with museum/tourist operations are the only opportunities to preserve those segments.
I thought the ideas posted on about the opportunity for using some of the tracks north of Healdsburg for museum or tourist operations is probably the only feasible scheme to see anything north of Healdsburg operating ever again.
