CALTRAIN to Subway to Marin

Before I get slammed, I am not one of those pacific rim railroad guys. Howver here is my brainstormed idea.

It is my understanding that CALTRAIN wants to electricfy and want to build tail tracks underground from the San Francisco station (perhaps to connect to transbay terminal or something.

If this is so, why not continue the tunnel under the embarcadaro then all the way to some connecting Marin city with the SMART/NWP tracks??? Yes this would eliminate ferries.

Just an idea.

By the way, my BNSF buddy states, " in the 1800s it took 5 months to build a 90 miles or rail in the Colordao Rockies, but it takes BART 5 years to put in 1 additional station, now thats progress...."
