Transportation economics ignorance, indeed. Why rail containers from Albany to Portland when it's only a 2 hour drive straight up Interstate 5 ??? A decent dray hauler can turn 2 or even 3 round-trips a day, if traffic and the intermodal gates are flowing well.
Up here in Puget Sound I see many trucks making the trip from Portland, Salem, and even Eugene to the Ports of Seattle & Tacoma every day. It's one of the reasons ( as were Longshore labor issues and transit time on the Columbia River ) Hanjin gave up on Port of Portland several years ago.
