I have yet to ride the GCRy, would love to do so, and am very disappointed about the cancellation of steam operation. However, railfans make up an extremely miniscule percentage of the population in general, and I'm sure also a tiny percentage of the GCRy's customer base. It's all about the money (it is a business, after all), and apparantly they found the cost of running steam too high versus what it contributed to the bottom line. Most people probably wouldn't know the difference anyway--they tell their kids, "look at the choo-choo!" no matter what it is. In this day and age, it's remarkable any steam runs at all.
