I am not knowledgeable regarding railroad rules. The train was likely put into emergency when the engineer noticed the trespasser. This train stopped short of the platform by less than 1000'. It was scheduled to be at Fullerton at 2:46 PM. I arrived at 4:45 PM and watched the train move to the platform at 5 PM. Simple math says it sat there, so close to the platform, for 2 hours and 15 minutes. I can understand keeping passengers onboard when train is nowhere near a atation, but so close, yet so far. "First responders drag their feet"? The County Coroner is located in downtown Santa Ana, 13 miles away and depending on traffic, about 30 minutes. We don't know what their caseload was at that time. If this type of thing and delay happened on a daily basis, people would possibly take alternative to train. The percentages of this happening to anybody (extreme delay) is probably quite low. You can bet that the passengers were very unhappy and BNSF displeased too. One Coaster engineer I used to know said trespass strike would inconvenience 20,000 people, mostly train riders. I agree that there should be rules in place to avoid being hostage on a train.
