Re: Or according to the latest reports, maybe we should blame the engineer....

This just got a lot weirder.

It is supposed to be supported by a set of suspension cables hanging from a center mast, with two parts one over the highway, and a second shorter span over the canal, when it is finished. None of the suspension cables had yet been installed to support it. The "trusses" we see simply hold up the bottom (walkway) They apparently had no business removing the supports, which were blocking traffic lanes (you see those in the videos where they slid this into place) under the section that collapsed, until they had put in the other section (across the canal) and tied both sections into the "mast" and both sections counter balanced with the suspension cables.

The security video shots of the real time collapse, and the story from Miami Channel ten, including an interview with an outside engineer, on how the final design was supposed to work are pointing to a major screw up. This incident is also now reportedly being investigated by the NTSB.
