The SW Chief is a good train. Did I read elsewhere that ridership has been going up?

Here are good Amtrak routes that Amtrak has relinquished. Getting them back seems impossible now:

Direct access to Phoenix has been gone for 22 years.

The Pioneer to Boise has been gone for 21 years.

The Desert Wind to Las Vegas has been gone 21 years.

These operating routes were thrown away. Restoring them will take countless expensive studies, congressional hearings, and renegotiating with the carriers. A huge task for a future leader.
