The line between Dayton and Walla Walla is not owned by the Port of Whitman county, it is owned by the local county port (Port of Columbia county????). The only thing that is owned by the Port of Whitman County is a bridge near Pampa that Watco claimed that the head cut of the local creek was going to wipe out soon and the only way to get government money for repairs was if a government body owned it, sooooo after two plus years of haggleing the port purchased the bridge for a $1 and do date nothing has been done to stabilize the head cut. The Port of Whitman County purchased two pieces of M of W equipment that it gave to Watco in exchange for the title to BLMR 799 & BLMR 792. Don't think Watco has ever paid them off so as far as I know the Port still holds title to the units. The state of Washington owns all of the ex-UP trackage from Hooper to Winona, Winona to Colfax to Pullman, Winona to Thornton. All was purchased at the same time as the ex-BNSF P&L Branch. I am on the road and I don't have my files on what Watco owns and what they lease from the UP in the Walla Walla area. Note, BNSF still retains ownership of the first 3 or so miles of both the P&L and CW branches. When I get back to town next week I'll try to make time to look the rest up.
