Re: W&I RR to host BNSF grain trains.
The 6-axle Baldwin (NP 525) did not run on the P&L, but was based in Pasco and ran on the Walla Walla branch. The two Baldwins that ran on the P&L ca 1948-1952 were NP 500 and 501, both 4-axle units used on the passenger trains.
525 was the only 6-axle unit the NP owned until the GE U25Cs arrived in 1964. To the best of my knowledge the BN did not run 6-axle units on the P&L, but they did run some heavy 4-axle units. A friend once saw one of the LMX B39s on the WI&M.
Despite the predictions of naysayers, the EWG is successfully running SD45s and an SD40-2 on their ex NP CW branch, and pulling good sized grain trains with them. The CW was constructed much like the P&L and still has a lot of 85# rail left. It has its share of curves but, unlike the P&L, it has few timber trestles.
