An inadequate 3rd & Townsend station would indeed seem to cause real impediments in the future. Have they considered the option of veering off north of that station into a tube to the East Bay? That would achieve thru running possibly for a number of trains, avoiding the crawl to the TBT. You could also run some trains from the East Bay terminating at the TBT, sort of a high speed Key System.

I get the idea that a major, maybe key, driver in this planning is to grab Caltrain property for skyrises?
