“We’re not supporting clean coal.” - Joe Biden

"Capturing CO2 imposes a cost amounting to about
$24 per ton. At the largest U.S. power plant which
emits about 25 million tons of CO2 annually, the
extra cost would be $600 million per year. For all
U.S. coal-fired power plants, which emit a total
of more than 2.2 billion tons annually, the cost
would be a staggering $52 billion per year."

OK, so what are the costs to the American public in terms of
health and medical and breathing clean and clear air? How many deaths
annually can be stopped by consuming healthier source resources?

The costs to the taxpayers by using legacy resources is actually
staggering. What is actually missing here is American ingenuinity.
A lot of the folks here are crippled by inside the box thinking
and don't understand the roots of innovation.

Take one example: Ford designed the Model T to run on ethyl alcohol.
Who was the biggest funder of Prohibition in the 1920's? Why it was
Standard Oil. Why? To keep consumption of alcohol from vehicles, not
humans. So, we ended up with sole source Petro based fuels, instead
of giving work to our farm economy for grain based fuels.

There are other crops besides corn that can be grown to be used for
fuel and all can be grown domestically. With proper research and
development, we can have cleaner burning fuels without so much
environmental damage. And the United States has the brain power
to get there and lead the planet.

So, while the numbers that Tom quotes are staggering, the cost in
health and welfare is so much larger that we can't survive without
research and solutions. Hanging on to the Rust Belt mentality doesn't
really serve any of us.

As the polar icecaps melt (CO2) and the sea level gradually rises, what is
the cost to the world cities that will be 10 feet under water? Again,
there is a cost to every cost saving measure and some benefits can
be gained by spending up front to preserve the planet.
