GunnerX, that 4-8-2 was photographed...there was a color pic of it on T.O. a couple of years ago. As for a tender, she had been given one of the larger 16,000 gallon ones like the 5000 class had...she had this 'till the end, I believe. Strapac & Diebert's Compendium shows her as being vacated from the roster on 8-13-56 and scrapped 4-19-61 in Eugene. She was an MT-5 and built by the Sacramento Shops. This was not a myth about her lasting so late, just a real shame that she was not saved. A lot of SP enginemen liked the 4300's more than the GS types. I know one Western Division fireman here in Sebastopol who was on one in Davis & the dispatcher allowed it out ahead of an officers special heading for West Oakland. This was due both to the locomotives capability and reputation of the engineer.
