Using a thumb went out of fashion by the 1970s due to concerns about personal safety. Even if I wasn't concerned about my own safety, drivers would have been leery about picking up a stranger late at night in a city and I could have waited just as long for a ride as I waited in the subway for a train.

Your rude and thoughtless comments say far more about you than they do about me.
