LRT is silly for a line with this ridership potential. It should be grade-separated heavy rail transit the whole way from Santa Ana Metrolink at one end and a new tunnel connecting it through downtown LA at the other. Furthermore, the line should be designed to accomodate future branches and extensions to Glendale, Orange County Airport (SNA), UC Irvine, Disneyland, and Anaheim's ARTIC.
LA Metro's embrace of LRT is embarrassing and wholly insufficient to meet the region's actual transportation needs. OCTA's streetcar is worse.
LRT is not compatible with "streetcar" systems unless it's designed from the start for that compatibility. Elevated platforms, clearance gauge, flangeways, curve radii, OCS height, collision worthiness, and anti-climber heights are among the issues that may prevent operating different equipment on the same tracks.
