To be clear, I mean a system compatible with the Red and Purple lines, which due to the third rail, must be grade separated at roads.

None of this street running nonsense with traffic lights LA Metro seems to be okay with.

This can be at-grade on stretches of private ROW, especially with some street closures, but denser areas require elevated or subway construction.

A CalMod-style EMU system would be an interesting alternative, but that would be harder to bring through downtown Los Angeles and Santa Ana.
