I wasn't refering to the new ROW to cross the Oberman(sp?) pit. I was refering to the original ROW that was regraded with sloped banks typical of a modern freeway rather than one constructed in the 1860s.
Years ago I worked for the V&T, and lived in Carson and VC for a few years. I drove much of the ROW and it did not need to be regraded to the extent I saw done on the Gold Hill end (excluding the pit area).
As I remember, the major political support to rebuild the V&T to Carson started years ago when the Gov. Richard Bryan visited the Durango & Silverton and imagined something similiar for Nevada. I applaud the accomplishments so far, but I just wish there was a little more respect for the historical aspect beyond just making it a tourist train ride built to modern construction standards.
