Every year there are good and bad shows, It all depends on your taste, Last year was the first all digital showing vs. slides and the quality went up huge. I suspect future shows will all be digital too. The Smelly foam facture is very minor as many rails show up for this event too. Its a great place to network, visit, and enjoy good shows. The swap meet is hit or miss depending what your looking but every year I still find something new to buy. There is also the photo contest where you can enter your photos to be judged by your peers with great prizes. Throughout the shows they have nice raffle prizes to give away. Its also an easy way to make it a railfan weekend and explore other sites to and from WR. The Sierra RR usually runs something the day after you can include and if show up the Friday night before Railfan & Railroad Magazine along with the NRHS have a pizza party where the general public has a chance to show there stuff on the big screen. The ones that can't deal with WR are those you usually see parked trackside alone in there car.
