There's the difference for, going beyond the original 1927 (???) limits, so-called "west of Glendale" adjustment, to certain switching jobs that went beyond those earlier limits. Then, there was the 100 miles, for going out of the yard, into road territory.
I used to deliver "hot" "shut down" cars from the Shops, to GM at Gemco, so I would get the "west of Glendale, for going out to Burbank Jct. then, after leaving the yard territory, and going out to Gemco, would get a day's pay (plus the road power rate of pay). Usually involve running "beans" and collecting the "beans" penalty (20 minutes) for no "beans"... Thank you Ralph, always my favorite Shops Yardmaster.
My last Ringling Bros circus train spot for the Sports Arena across from USC on the Santa Monica Branch (today's Expo LRT), got me a day for going out the PE "road" side, working a J yard "yard" job, and I was already working emergency off of my regular job, at overtime rate, worked over that shift to add more overtime, wouldn't be rested for my regular job, and got another days pay for that, too... As the old bumper sticker used to say: Live Better-Work Union!
The question of Union rules had to do with ATSF horse trains with switch crews to Hollywood Park on the Harbor sub, that were outside of yard limits, in road territory, with hot horse moves.... And, back then, this would have applied.
