Lee, the BN 1978 was the SP&S 153. The first four (150-153) of the six SP&S GP9s were built for passenger service and the last two (154-155) for freight service. I certainly didn't like the GP9s in passenger service. While the long hood forward provided better protection against rockslides and those idiot log truck drivers at road crossings, the noise in the cab drove one nuts. With the standard two units for power, once track speed of 79 MPH was attained (and I won't say how much higher, except that it often met or exceeded the Century mark when running tardy) many, many miles would pass in throttle notch 2 in which every cabinet door in the cab rattled loudly and mercilessly. There was no relief from it because in those days the use of hearing protection was prohibited.
