On the SN Employee Timetables, the diamond was called LasJuntas. A spot less than a half mile west of there, was listed on the SN Timetable as "Sparkle". I'm out of town right now - otherwise, I could consult my Grandfather's timetable for the exact milepost.

SN's Sparkle consisted of an electifried spur where fruit refers were loaded, right out in the orchards. If memory serves, the spur was also supposedly served by the SP via a connector track. I never saw that actually happen though. The weed covered connector looked as though it had never been used (1956-57). Probably both railroads used the name Sparkle, but at slightly different locations.

I have no actual data on the origin of the name, only that the electrified spur was a big nuisance to the maintenance dept.. But looking at that trolley wire over open ice hatches could give you darn good idea, though!
