RE Republican support for Amtrak service, there was some talk here in Oregon a few months back of a (bipartisan) request for resuming Amtrak service to eastern Oregon (i.e. the I-84 corridor). What was that train called, the Pioneer? So some Republicans are apparently in favor of expanded Amtrak funding. Though the fact is, there are precious few politicians (Reps or Dems) who aren't in favor of more federal spending -- in their own districts!
I think the recovery package vote was largely "symbolic", whatever the heck that's supposed to mean to us regular citizens and taxpayers. They knew it would pass even without their votes, they got a few changes made to it before the vote anyway, and as I said, there's few if any pols who would refuse federal spending in their districts on some "idealogical" basis.
That's our government at work, I guess. Regardless of whether you're red, blue, liberal, conservative, whatever, the average citizen is little more than a spectator on the sidelines at this point.
