"the thought that daily service to Los Angeles

Utility is completely different.

Brightline East service: "Each trainset is able to hold 248 passengers" with "50 21-inch (530 mm)-wide seats per car".

CO2 is insane per passenger mile with current avg speeds of 69mph.

CAHSR "desires to procure and operate service proven trainsets capable of operating at 220
mph with a capacity of between 900 – 1000 passengers per 400 meter unit"

TGVs "are 237.5 m (779 ft) long and 2.9 m (9.5 ft) wide. They weigh 444 tonnes, and are made up of two power cars and ten carriages with a capacity of 485 seats."

No CO2 given assuming a clean grid.

LA inner city service is not the purpose of HSR. Passengers per mile per co2 is.
