It remains to be seen whether Thomas the Tank inspires today's kids enough to repopulate the railfan ranks, historical society memberships, and railroad museum activists. I have my serious doubts that it will generate enough long-term interest in the hobby once these kids grow up. It's a flash in the pan, at least in this country, in my opinion.
No doubt about it that it draws crowds and produces revenue for the sponsors.
