I rather doubt that many engines or cars exist that change gauge on the fly. Through cars on, say Berlin - St. Petersburg, Berlin- Moscow, or Vienna - Moscow routes, have a change of trucks at the Russian frontier. Quite an operation, with cars being raised on permanent car jacks, and then the old trucks are pushed or pulled away, and the new trucks shoved under and hooked on.
