At least one of West Side Lumber's narrow-gauge Heislers was converted to standard gauge to work the Sierra Railroad trackage in Tuolumne. Canadian National ferried standard-gauge freight cars to Newfoundland, where their trucks were swapped for 3'6" gauge ones. And Rio Grande's K-37 Mikados (490-499) were originally built as standard-gauge 2-8-0s. Of course, only the CN example above was one where equipment was routinely changed back and forth.
