When these engines were placed it storage, the LA Locomotive Facility decided to fuel all the stored loco's to capacity because of the fuel shortage of the 70's. However, they failed to place the proper additives to them and the fuel ended up with a fungus and could not be used. That was a very expensive loss for the SPRR at the time.
