A particular station along the route nearest the actual time zone line is designated as the time zone change location. East of that town is one zone, west of it is the other. When traveling Amtrak, when departing west of a particular stop, passengers are advised to change their watches then, rather than waiting for arrival at the next stop, as services such as meal service times are geared to that new time zone.
