SP SDP45's on the Daylight and Starlight

SP #3204 passing thru the cut behind Oak Hill with Train #98, The Coast Daylight in December of 1970. Deadheading cars for The Sunset are also in the consist. This cut has since been widened and double tracked to handle Cal Train's Gilroy service.

It is February of 1972 as SP #3209 is at Alviso with Amtrak Train #12, The Southbound Starlight. The number "12" was used to conform to Espee's use of even numbers for Eastbound trains. To the right is the landmark Vahl's restaurant then still run by the late Amelia Vahl who opened her first restaurant in San Jose in 1929.
