I too looked at the USGS maps, trying to find out what this location is called. As I looked at the topography, the railroad actually passes through neither a pass or a gap at this location. As OldPoleBurner pointed out, the railroad goes around the pass/gap while the interstate goes through it. Oddly enough, within a short distance of one another, both Yuba Gap and Yuba Pass appear. In reference to the wonderful picture Drew posted, this is right next to the location called Yuba Gap. The location labeled Yuba Pass is where I-80 passes over the railroad, which when you look at the topography, is not even a pass. In order to end this incessant bickering, I propose we all just accept the term Yuba Gap, since there is an actual pass called Yuba Gap no more than 1500 ft from where these pictures were taken. Besides, the difference between a pass and a gap is who named it. The topographic features are identical.
