I ran across this photo while web surfing. Is it just me, or does it seem like that red light on the upper target is exceptionally dim? The one on the lower target isn't much better. Are all these trasit agencies trying to save money on their electric bills by powering down the wattage on their signals?
Red is a dark color to begin with. When one places it against a BLACK (also a dark color) background disk, it becomes even harder to see.
This topic is one of the things the NTSB has mentioned in the Chatsworth wreck. If the signal at CP Topanga was supposedly red (to many people, the jury is still out on THAT one), the NTSB has determined that it was a VERY DIM red.
I really like those exceptionally bright LED signals that are being gradually installed. They are super bright. Who knows? Maybe if CP Topanga had been equipped with those on Sept. 12, the outcome may have had a happy ending.
