After reading the responses on this thread, my question has, apparently, been answered.

Yes, IT IS just me.

Bring on the LEDs. They're a vast improvement over the older types of signals, such as the one depicted in the photo. And I'm sure that most everyone here will be in agreement that anything to make an engineer's job just a little bit easier is welcomed.

On a somewhat related topic, can someone explain why management doesn't want crew members to use binoculars when observing signals? My feeling is, what's wrong with a little bit more of "advance notice" of what's up ahead?
