To Ex-BN:

The line in question was never electrified. The ACES operating practice is to keep the power on the consist throughout, resulting in the unique sight of an electric locomotive leading in non-electrified territory.

Just east of Cherry Hill, the NJT track parallels the PATCO High-Speed Line for several miles to Lindenwold. The PATCO route runs through Camden into Philadelphia, crossing the Delaware River on the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, which has carried rapid transit since 1936.

This particular area of southern New Jersey has gained a good bit of transit in recent years. PATCO has operated since 1968; Amtrak (briefly) and New Jersey Transit returned train service to the Atlantic City Line in 1989.

More recently, NJT has added the River Line diesel light rail between Camden and Trenton, the New Jersey state capital. The route follows a former PRR/Conrail freight line; the Camden-Bordentown segment of this route dates back to the early 1830s as part of the original Camden & Amboy RR. The famous "John Bull" steam locomotive, which still exists today at the Smithsonian, was built for this railroad.

The River Line connects with PATCO in downtown Camden, and with the Northeast Corridor in Trenton. There are also plans to construct a new intermodal station in Pennsauken, on the north side of Camden, where the River Line crosses the NJT Atlantic City Line.
