Re: One reason Brightline has an engine on each end. But Amtrak is smarter than Brightline. As were WSDOT accountants

Someone said Amtrak turns these Chargers fast at each terminal, so mechanics don’t have much time to perform diagnostics or maintenance.
Laughable.
Train 503 arrives in Portland at 9:17 AM. It leaves as train 518 at 2:10 PM. almost FIVE HOURS of dead non-revenue maintenance time.
Train 505 arrives in Eugene at 1:48 PM. It leaves as train 508 at 4:30 PM. Nearly 2 hours 45 minutes of dead non-revenue maintenance time.
Train 517 arrives in Portland at 3:35 PM. It leaves as train 506 at 5:55 PM, over two hours of dead, non-revenue maintenance time.
Trains 509 and 511 arrive in Portland at 9:05 and 11:15 PM, respectively. They don't go out until trains 500 at 6:45 AM and 502 at 8:20 AM - THE NEXT DAY.
There's so much slack in the schedule, there is no excuse for 100% proper maintenance, FULL cleaning (yup even the windows) AND dining car stocking at each turnaround. And when people talk about "leaving money on the table", Amtrak trains don't make money sitting on a yard track. They make money MOVING, and these trains could easily be making a full additional revenue move for each of their layovers.
