Ken, not too long at all, I wish I'd gotten more west into the area you discuss as a kid. I do
somewhat remember the Santa Fe station as you describe. It was ten years later when I went to work
in Vernon that I got to play driver for our Sales Engineer who lived in Playa Del Rey, right next
to the PE line, which was freight only and seldom used by then. The spot was maybe five miles from
the horse pens where my Dad bought manure for his garden. It was not too far from PE Alta. It's
sorta bizarre how rural that area was back then and now you couldn't find those spots with a GPS
rig. In the mid sixties the Venice line was still mostly intact, the Playa Del Rey line, the line into El Segundo, the stub into Inglewood. It was amazing how much PE survived into the sixties.
We keep this up and Tom M will start in on how the Petaluma and Santa Rosa practically ran thru
his yard!!
