Wasn't it the Announcer, not Bob, that said that?

Nope - they bought them from local dealerships in the L.A. area. The dealer was named in the credits of the shows and sometimes during the announcer's announcement of the prize. Most of the cars won were not taken up by the prize winners - the taxes had to be paid on the spot and most contestants didn't have the cash to pay the taxes. If they won a cash prize along with the car, they could use the cash to pay the taxes on both the cash prize and the car. But most cars were left behind and then re-used in later episodes.
