How do you know it was altered? Please cite your authorities.

Biden's learning of English dates to the 1940s/1950s when syntax and word orders were slightly different than in this day and age. Biden is a stutterer, which really shows when he is stressed or becomes tired, and this complicates his syntax. The WH released a transcript which showed "supporter's", which as you point out refers to only one supporter. However, the plural is "supporters' ", which sounds precisely the same, so it's hard to tell just by listening. I think there is a good chance the WH Press Office also failed to notice this when they prepared the transcript.
