Tom (the Rocket) DeLaRosa qualified as an engineer in steam for the SP in '55. He fired on the 4449 many times and it was his absolute favorite, tho he never had the seniority at the time as engineer. Some years back I did a jigsaw puzzle of the 4449 and glued it together and gave it to him. He had it framed and it hung in his house until he died in 2006 at age 86. He retired at age 80 in 2000 to have treatment for colon cancer.
